Lāhainā - all that sunshine is good for something!

Extended Horizons' shop is located on West Maui, and the town of Lahaina. "Lahaina was the capital of the Kingdom of Hawaiifrom 1820 to 1845.[7] King Kamehameha III, son of Kamehameha I, preferred the town to bustling Honolulu... The name Lā hainā means "cruel sun" in the Hawaiian language, describing the sunny dry climate.[6] Lahaina averages only 13 inches (330 mm) of rain per year..." (source: Wikipedia)... all of that sunshine is perfect for our solar powered dive shop!

Last month we generated 1,783.33 kWh of energy...
The environmental impact equivalent of growing 32.83 trees for 10 years...
or not driving 2,948.68 miles in a car...
or conserving 3.45 barrels of crude oil!

We are pleased to be maintaining our commitment to Green Initiatives!

Your tanks have been filled by....

... the Power of the SUN !!!

It's been a long time coming...
but we're finally running our shop on solar energy!

The installation of 32 photovoltaic panels was completed in December 2012 by HNU Energy, a Maui based company. After a long wait for the final checks and approval from MECO, the solar system was up and running in February 2013. You can't imagine how difficult it was to wait, and wait, and wait to get to use these beauties!

Solar is the most recent step by owner, Erik Stein,
in Extended Horizons' eco-friendly operations.
During our first full month on solar power, EH generated 1,787.71 kWh. That translates into 3.46 barrels of crude oil conserved and 2,829.8 lbs of carbon dioxide emissions avoided!

It feels good to tell our customers that their tanks

have been pumped with the power of the sun!
